ZERODUR Schott, low thermal expansion glass-ceramic, is the material of choice for a wide variety of high-tech applications. From performing significant roles in navigation systems to improving the performance of microchips, Zerodur Schott, continually evolves with each challenge. MG-Optics acquires the outstanding process techniques in producing custom lightweight blank, which can not only be machined based on the specific drawings, but also do the lightweight design with a maximum size of 1500mm.
Material Properties
ZERODUR Schott, is used for telescope mirror blank in monolithic and segmented telescopes. As well as low thermal expansion (any fluctuation in temperature due to environmental changes would obfuscate telescope images), the easy machinability and polishing properties of ZERODUR Schott, make it ideal for adaptive optics. And it was used to produce the 40 m segmented primary mirror in the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) in Chile.
